Alcalá de Henares is in the East of Madrid. It has got a population of more than 200.000. It´s famous because Cervantes was born here, for its university and the Cervantes prize.

Shopping

Alcalá is a great place to go shopping because at Cervantes square there are lots of shops. Alcalá has got lots of shopping centres and a department store.

Transport

In Alcalá it is easy to get around. You can walk to almost every place but you have to go by car to some of them. If you do not have a car you can go by bus. There are lots of trains to other cities.

Things to see

                                                            

Alcalá  has got a lot of emblematic places as Cervantes´ house, museums, cinemas, etc.

Alcalá has got one of the oldest universities in the world and one of the oldest theatres.

You can also visit the medieval wall and the meeting house where Colombus met the Catholic Monarchs.

The Holy Infants, Justo and Pastor, are buried in the cathedral.
